Death Sentence Nick Hume is a South Carolina businessman who comes to Columbia for a visit to watch his son Brendan play hockey. They stop at a fuel station in a shabby area of town before they head to home. Joe Darley, a new member of the gang, cut Brendan’s throat in an apparent theft at the gas station. Nick is involved in a brawl with the thugs, and then pulls Joe’s mask off, showing his face. Joe is able to escape, however, he is struck by a vehicle. Nick takes Brendan to the hospital, but the boy dies.
Nick is able to recognize Joe in the line-up of police officers. However, Nick is angry at the District Attorney informs Nick that his defense team will offer a plea bargain for an lenient sentence since there’s not enough evidence for a trial. Nick removed his identification during the pre-trial hearing to ensure that Joe is free. Nick goes with the gang to their hideout, and is waiting for Joe to be left alone, before he cuts Joe to death. Billy is the leader of the gang is determined to take revenge. A gang member says that his sister was able to see a man in an outfit the night Joe was killed. They ambush him on the street, after they confirm the identity of Nick from a photo in a newspaper. He is chased to the parkade. He hides, and then runs through the parkade, jumping onto cars as he runs. The gang appears to be disorientated by the alarms that are blaring from the vehicles. Nick is required to climb the ladder when an gang member is threatening to take over. Nick struggles for what that he is given and is then required to drive a car alongside him. The car turns around and drives towards the parkade. Nick is able to escape just enough time. But the gang member is thrown into the ground and dies. Nick’s office gets visited by a different group member who is delivering the suitcase that he was unable to retrieve in the pursuit. Nick dials the number on the suitcase that belongs to Billy. Billy tells Nick that Nick purchased the “death sentence” that he later discloses to be his brother Joe. Nick contacts Jessica Wallis, the Detective assigned to Brendan’s case. Jessica knows that Nick initiated the crime. Jessica issues APBs to Billy and his gang, and provides Nick’s family with security. The police officers who protect Nick’s home are slain and attacked the next night. However, Nick discovers the gang members living in his home before he even realizes. They take control of Nick and take Helen as well as Lucas down and kill the two. Helen is killed while Lucas is hospitalized.
After Jessica gives a speech on the fact that wars never end, she lets Nick to visit the unconscious Lucas and then he apologizes for not being a a better father. Nick quits the hospital to search for the remaining members of the gang. He purchases guns from Bones who is who is a black market dealer in guns. Bones then reveals himself as Billy’s father at the conclusion of the deal. Nick finds Heco who is a member and asks him questions about their whereabouts. Heco reveals that the hideout of “The Office” which is a defunct mental institution is where they are hiding. Heco is ordered to dial Billy’s cell phone at gunpoint, and is executed while Billy is still watching. Bones confronts Billy and murders the man. Nick goes to “The Office” in order to take out the remaining group. After an encounter, they are shot and are badly wounded in the chapel of the hospital. He says he created Nick an icy-blooded killer as he was. Nick pulls out his revolver, and asks Billy whether they’re willing to be avenged by their killer. When Nick departs, Billy weeps before Nick takes his own existence. Nick is now with his family , vengeful is home, and enjoys the films of his loved ones before waiting for his detention. Jessica informs him that Lucas is now in good health and is expected to live to the fullest. Nick is happy to hear his family sing joyfully in the living room.
